Captain Wm Causey b.1744, An Alternative History

14 November 2023

While researching Thomas Causey, Sr. today I ventured on an extensive presentation on a Thomas S. Causey, b.1861 to Jonas son of Thomas, son of Captain Wm. Causey. The story generally parallels that of other writings depicting the life of Captain Causey, this one interested me because it states his father as Thomas Causey born in Scotland. I’ve got to dig into the rest of the story of this Causey Cousin. Here’s the extract:

This is the path that I have been attached to. The William Causey who fought in the American Revolution, son of Thomas from Ireland is the brother of my 5x great grandfather Nehemiah. My hope was the Y-111 test my brother took could validate this, eventually taking us to Nathaniel in Jamestown.

I just found this site and blog and am very interested to look through the substantial amount of information. I descend from William Causey and his first wife (my 5th great-grandparents), through an unknown daughter, possibly a Sarah given naming patterns of my family. It appears as though Sarah (??) married an unknown Daniels and their son, my 3rd great-grandfather, is John M. Daniel(s) who is listed in William Causey’s Will as his grandson. John was in SC and went to MS with William Causey, we believe as a young orphaned child. John Daniel(s) and Josiah Causey, a son of William and his second wife Susannah (Jackson) Causey, appear to have been very close. John married Eliza Jackson, Susannah Jackson’s sister and daughter of Isaac and Ann (Richardson) Jackson. I have documented information on John and Eliza’s children, but nothing definitive on John M. Daniel(s)’ parents. There is so much here for me to review, but I would be very interested to know if anyone connected to the Causey line has ever come across someone with the last name of Daniel or Daniels in any of their paperwork or research. Unfortunately my DNA connections are somewhat limited because of the number of generations back and my inability to participate in YDNA research. My working tree is on Ancestry, although I am on just about every DNA site. My GEDmatch number is GP9920711.

If anyone has come across a Daniel or Daniels in their research, I would greatly appreciate hearing from you. I’m looking forward to diving in to all the information here on my Causey lines.

    1. Hello Wendy, Yes, I saw John M Daniel grandson in Cpt Causey’s will. The only possible family connection I’ve seen in my brief search is a John Daniel age over 45 living in St Peters, Beaufort, South Carolina, listed on the 1810 US Census. The surname “Daniel” as opposed to the more common surname “Daniels” might be a key. His age is right to be a parent of John M. Daniel who was probably born around 1790. I need to go back over all the Mississippi records and see if he is listed among the Causeys in Amite County or other parts of the state. I’ll let you know if I find anything.
