Y-DNA Haplogroup Update

3 January 2024

Happy New Year to all. With the new year came an interesting twist in our continuing quest for the Common Ancestor of the latest mutation of the Causey T-M70 Y-DNA Haplogroup. As many of you know, the Y-DNA chromosome is passed from biological father to son and can go thousands of years without mutations. I won’t again depict the long line of mutations from the original T-M70 ancestor, (The paternal haplogroup T-M70 is believed to have originated in the Near East around 15,000 years ago.) The two latest mutations of this line has occurred in the American Causey surname within the previous 500 years. The first mutation from T-CTS6280 to T-CTS36788 sometime between 1540 – 1916 AD. My guess is that mutation occurred between John Causey and son Nathanial Causey who migrated to Jamestown in 1608. No way to prove this however. But now another mutation has occurred sometime between between 1690 – 2020 AD. Family Tree DNA predicts that mutation occurred in the 20th century. However the latest report shows 4 individuals with the new mutation who have documentation of our lineages being geographically separated prior to the mid 1800s. Therefore that prediction is not possible. It is my prediction that this new haplogroup, T-FTE75400, will eventually be shown to have occurred much earlier, say around 1700 or even before. Time will tell as more of our Causey clan decide to dig deeper into their paternal ancestry. At this time the FTDNA Big Y test may be the way. I did a screen capture of the latest report. See below:
