A few of our American Causey Clan cousins who trace their ancestors back to South Carolina are asking for help. Their Y-DNA is the same group as the Causeys from Maryland, North Carolina, Alabama, Mississippi, and Texas… T-M70. So we have been trying to connect the Horry County, South Carolina Causeys with their probable ancestors in North Carolina and Maryland. We haven’t found that connection yet but there are several possibilities. There was a John Carsey who was on the Little Pee Dee River by 1764. The name Carsey also translates “Causey” depending on the scribe. He would have been born no later than 1743 and probably earlier, say 1735. The Causeys of Dorchester County, Colonial Maryland were being noted as “Causey” by then. But in surrounding counties, many Causeys were still being scribed as Carsey or Coursey. So, apart of some probate court or other connection, there is no way to link John Carsey back to earlier Causeys.
I looked at a number of Land records from South Carolina to see what I could come up with. I decided I would put it out to you all and see if it helps you make any connections. Here’s what I have in the following PDF file. I don’t think any of it is copyright, so feel free to download if you need it: wrc
